This is a great question and one I get asked from time to time. It’s not always the easiest to put into words because the boudoir experience itself is emotional and one you really have to feel in order to truly understand. It’s also a big part of who I am as a human and what I stand for. It’s also changed and grown to a new why over the years. I’ll write a bit about the progress below.
The Transformation
The best part about being a boudoir photographer is watching the transformation that takes place in my studio. It’s the biggest part of the experience. When a client arrives most of the time they’re nervous, unsure, shaky hands and voices, sweaty palms, the works. I see this all the time, but once they sit down in the chair to begin hair and makeup it changes and we’ve begun the journey.
Feelings of unease start to dwindle and excitement begins to kick in. Then the photo taking begins. We’ll start with with a warm up outfit to work out some of the last few nerves. After that outfit it’s when the magic happens. Laughter comes out (trust me your partner wants to see photos of you having fun) and the posture begins shifting to a more confident you.
By the time the session is done and you get to see your images, we’re friends. You’ve just felt what it was like to start from nervous, calming down, to sexy and ending uber confident. This is such a special experience and one every one should do!
A little piece of my story…
Boudoir for me started quite a while ago when I walked into a session for myself. I was in a terrible relationship that was thankfully falling apart however I was falling apart with it.
Something inside my heart told me to go do a boudoir session. I was photographing other genres at the time and boudoir definitely interested me but I didn’t have any experience yet. I thought I should put myself in your shoes so I could know exactly how you felt. Then I took it another step further and worked with a male photographer. I wanted to push my personal boundaries because I knew great change would come from great discomfort. It did not disappoint in the slightest.
I started on the journey of readjusting my self talk and I’m so thankful I did. Eventually that relationship fell apart (thank goodness) and I was so much better for it. I found confidence for the first time in my life, a self awareness I didn’t know I had and had started to love myself again.
I vowed at that time I wanted to find a way to give those same emotions back to other women. Because we deserve to feel as amazing as we are. To feel heard, loved, and respected. At the very most from our own selves.
Hey hey that’s me! 🙂 Doing my own selfie session at my home. Whenever I’m feeling down, having a rough time because we all do from time to time, I throw myself in front of the camera and do a boudoir session. It’s a way to reconnect with myself. I want that for you! 🙂
